The ideal temperature for staining decks is between 50 f to 90 f. They just weather away. Film forming wood protecting products like paints solid color stains enamels shellac polyurethane and epoxy coatings are the principal coatings involved when peeling problems occur. Most stains absorb into the wood surface so they don t form a film that could peel off.

Many factors can contribute to this problem. The moisture trapped inside the wood may hamper stain absorption into its fibers eventually causing it to peel off. We will cover several factors that contribute to poor adhesion in detail but if the stain does not properly stick to the wood it will almost always peel. You might consider having the siding stained with a preservative type stain that soaks into the wood and does not leave any surface coating that will peel and look ugly.

People often wrongly assume that applying one or two more coats will make the stain more durable. The problem is becoming more common peeling problems are becoming more common mostly due to air quality regulations. The unfortunate reality is that peeling solid color stain is a common occurrence. That will both extend the life of the siding and make the color more what you want.

The stain has not adhered sufficiently to the wood. First many house painting contractors promote the use of a two coat paint job as offering greater value than a one coat job.
