I am installing windows and siding which one comes first.
Do siding first or attached deck first.
In this sense it seems more practical to install the siding first.
Deck attached though siding.
Without flashing the wood is vulnerable to decay rendering deck to house joints dangerously loose.
Once you ve decided where you want the siding to begin drive a nail through a point on your chosen starting height and snap a chalk line around the perimeter of the house.
So you have the deck plate siding then the house.
That way water and snow melt won t be able to accumulate and seep under doorsills to ruin interior floors and storm doors will swing past ice snow.
First it s hard to hand drive nails through the tough material and second multiple hammer strikes will usually break out the backside.
If you don t have a siding or roofing nailer i suggest predrilling holes for nails or screwing the siding down with pan head screws.
Gap between the bottom of any doors and the top of the deck boards.
On the other hand you ll find some siding parts need to be nailed down under the roof shingles.
A common question that property owners have when installing siding is whether or not soffit should be installed first.
Blocking egress and access to services.
To attach the ledger board properly you first need to cut out all siding house wrap or tar paper and foam insulation so that the ledger board rests directly on the rim joist.
Soffit is the structure that rests beneath the overhang of the roof.
Some roofing components such as the flashing are easier to install without the siding.
Apply a second layer of sheathing over the first as a counterflashing.
Otherwise the siding installer will need to be extra cautious with the new roof.
Drop the level of the new ledger enough to allow at least a 2 in.
Its main purpose is to fill in space which exists between the tops of wall mounted objects such as cabinets and the ceiling.
The proper use of waterproofing flashing is also integral to the structural soundness of an attached deck.
Now if you have decided to have both projects done at the same time one will need to be installed first.
The last piece of siding you reinstall will require face nailing.
Nail a piece of plywood about 3 5 inches 89 mm thick along the top of the chalk line this will hold out the bottom of the first row of siding.
