2 pull carpet over to the left until reaching the spindles 3 cut or tear off carpet and put in garbage bag 4 tear up padding and put in garbage bag 5 pull up any staples that could be stepped on.
Paint the treads black and the risers white.
Each piece of carpet was also wrapped around the edges of the stairs and around the balusters so i had to remove the staples holding it in place from underneath green arrow below.
Disposal of old stair carpets is best done in heavy duty trash bags.
I had no idea what i would find under the carpet.
I started at the bottom corner of the stairs by using a crowbar to pry the carpet away from the tack strip.
Use that and rip from there.
If needed cut the carpet into manageable pieces with a razor knife and roll them into tubes before placing them into the trash can.
Once the carpet is separated from the tacks along a strip you start to get a handle on it.
Step 3 cut where you can when enough carpet is freed cut it.
Use the vise grips to pull the carpet free from the riser.
